The Diretsa player is a web page that plays the ads booked on your screen, full screen and in turn, and counts every play. Anything that can show a web page can run it. Setting it up takes one link per screen.
What you need
- A screen with a web browser: a smart TV, an Android TV box or stick, a computer, or the "web page" item in your digital signage system
- Wi-Fi or mobile data
- A Diretsa publisher account with your screen added (address, venue type, opening hours, price), and a screen ID for each screen, for example SOW-01
Set it up
- Add your screen IDs. In Media Control, open the screen's placement and make sure its location lists a screen ID for every physical screen.
- Create a player link. On the same placement, under Diretsa player, find the screen ID and choose Create player link. It looks like
https://api.diretsa.com/player/followed by a long code. Treat it like a password: anyone with it can play your ads. - Open the link on the screen in its browser, and switch the browser to full screen.
- Choose what shows between bookings (optional). Add
?fill=and the address of a web page to the end of the link, for example your menu page:.../player/<code>?fill=https://yourshop.co.za/menu. The page has to start with https, and some websites don't allow being shown inside another page; your own pages usually work. - Make it start by itself. Set the TV or box to open the browser with the link when it switches on, and turn off sleep and screen-saver settings, so the player comes back after a power cut.
What happens next
- The player checks for new bookings every 5 minutes and sends its play counts every minute.
- If the internet drops, it keeps playing what it already has and sends the counts when it reconnects. Plays are numbered, so nothing is counted twice.
- Every half hour Diretsa turns the counts into each booking's delivery. That record is the proof advertisers see, and it is what you are paid on.
If something goes wrong
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| The screen shows nothing | Nothing is booked right now. Add a ?fill= page so the screen shows your own content |
| A booked ad isn't playing | Check the booking is accepted and running today, then reload the page |
| Your dashboard says the screen has been silent for a day | Check the screen is on, the browser is open on the player link and the internet works |
| A device is lost or stolen | Revoke its player link in Media Control and create a new one for the replacement |
One screen, one link
Use a separate link for each physical screen, so each one's plays are counted and paid correctly. Two screens sharing one link look like one screen.
